Dust is the biggest job in Lemmon Valley

Lemmon Valley sits in open high desert north of Reno, and few trees stand between a house and the wind. Plenty of yards are gravel and native brush instead of lawn. On a windy afternoon, loose dirt from those yards blows into the air and gets into the house. It slips in under doors and around older window frames. A few days after a cleaning, you can see it again on a dark tabletop.

Desert dust is fine and a little gritty. Left alone, it packs into the sliding glass door grooves until the door drags. It settles on baseboards and window sills. Older homes and new builds clean differently

Road sand sticks in shoe treads and ends up on the entry tile and the first stretch of carpet. If it sits for weeks, that grit grinds into grout lines and carpet, and it gets much harder to lift out.

Many homes here have dogs, and some keep horses. Dirt comes in from the barn as well as the yard. Pet hair collects along baseboards and under beds, where it mixes with dust into gray clumps.
